Ms. Pernell was a wonderful lady. She was one of the top mentors in my life. She truly cared about her students and helped me so much. In 1977, I had accounting courses under Ms. Pernell at Louisburg and they were on Tuesday and Thursday every week for 2.5 hours each. It amazed me how smart Ms. Pernell was. God bless her soul as I know I will see her again someday in Heaven. Prayers and love to the family. Thank you again Ms. Pernell for the confidence you gave me. Love always, Gil-Ann

Mrs. Pernell was a terrific professor, lady and friend! Her understanding of college students was the best! She was a fantastic business professor, and I had the privilege of working for and with her through a work study program. She always talked about the loves of her life - John and Ellen! Your mom will be missed by many.

Ellen and Johnny,
I was so sorry to hear of Betsy's passing. You both were so fortunate to have had such wonderful parents throughout your adult lives. I remember your mom and your Dad fondly. Thinking of you at this time.
Love and comfort to you both.

My deepest sympathy to the family of a gracious lady, true inspiration to all who had the good fortune and pleasure to know her. She taught us so much more than the classes she taught at Louisburg. She never failed to remember us whenever and wherever she saw us.

Mrs. Pernell was my favorite college professor and enriched my life. She was a treasure. May you always rise to her expectations and cherish her wisdom.

Dear John, Ellen and the Pernell Family,
I regret that I did not have an opportunity to attend the service for your mother and perhaps to have spoken with you both. Mrs. Pernell was such a good soul. Your mom was the driving force that made the Louisburg library in this location a reality. That required political savvy and determination. Our county has reaped the rewards of her effort for forty-two years. For that all the citizens of our county owe her and your family, whom supported her, a profound debt of gratitude. I will miss her. I wish you a soft patience in this time of grief.
Sincerely,
Holt Kornegay

She was my Business Teacher at Bunn High School my senior year and the best one ever. Ellen and John were our class mascots that year and when it was time to practice commencement exercises she would send me home to get them on that big 1956 Buick. She would always say, on the way back stop and get me a hot dog. She and John chaperoned us on our senior trip to New York. We all just loved her so much. She was one of us. My heart goes out to your family and we will miss our angel.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Pernell was one amazing lady. She took me under her wing as a freshman at Lou-U back in 1973 and I have many fond memories and have thought of her often. Bless all of you on this journey that you are just starting.
