Vinette McGhee Mitchell

Vinette McGhee Mitchell, 91, of Bunn, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on August 11, 2023.

Vinette was a proud member and past president of the Bunn Garden Club. She loved all flowers and was known for her green thumb. She spent many years of her life serving her Lord at both Bunn Baptist Church and Poplar Springs Baptist Church, and in the community through the Bunn Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Club. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who never hesitated to lend a hand or one of many of her homecooked delights to her loved ones and community members. In recent years she has been a well known fixture at The Farmer’s Kitchen, known as Grandma, where many of her recipes live on.

Vinette was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Leamon Mitchell, her husband of 68 years, Luther Glenn Mitchell and her brother, Robert “Mac” McGhee. She is survived by her three children; Mary Mitchell of Youngsville, Howard Mitchell and his wife Cindy, of Youngsville and Sharon Blevins of Bunn; sister, Peggy Ion; five grandchildren, Tennille Altman and Mitch, Anna Marie Schumitta, Rob Mitchell and Meaghan, Matt Blevins and Tiffany, and Amanda Blevins; eight great grandchildren, Alexa and Avery Altman, Jaina and Jace Schumitta, Thomas Blevins, Holton and Brayden Mitchell, Steven Baddorf, as well as her beloved grand-pets, Prissy, Scooter, Mr. Kitty, Maggie, Abby, Charlie Brown and Vivi.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
