VERNON L. SAWYER

March 30, 1931 – March 26, 2018

LOUISBURG – Vernon L. Sawyer, 86, of Louisburg, died Monday night at Louisburg Nursing Center.

Vernon was the son of the late Harley and Elva L. Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean D. Sawyer; sisters, Nell Sawyer and Ina Shipman.

He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and a member of New Hope Christian Church. He was active in his church until his health failed. He was a founding member of the Bunn Rescue Squad in the early 1970’s.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at New Hope Christian Church with Rev. Steve Barham officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Vernon is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Bonnie Sawyer; daughter, Rebekah S. Janes; sisters, Irene Matheson and Lillian McGregor; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
