Reverend Raeford Carrol Wiggins, 81, went to be with the Lord Thursday Morning. Raeford was the son of the late Cleve O. Wiggins and Gertrude (Doll) Wiggins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Emogene Wiggins, sons; Raeford C. Wiggins Jr., and Timothy L. Wiggins; brother, Roy Lee Wiggins.
Reverend Raeford C. Wiggins was born October 21, 1942, and raised in Craven County. After graduation from school, he began work at DuPont and was there about ten years.
After serving time in the Air Force, he was called into the ministry. He was in pastoral ministry 18 years and felt a calling to have services at a correctional center. He was head of religious services and knew that’s where God wanted him. He was hired as clinical Chaplin and was employed there seventeen years before retiring. He had an open-door policy in his office, and whenever the prisoners needed to talk with him, they could. He was never afraid of them, but they needed encouragement and someone to talk to. Raeford had a big heart for the prisoners and felt sorry for them because of the bad life they had growing up. Many of them were led to Jesus while Raeford was there. He received letters from one of the guys years after he retired. He will see many of those prisoners in Heaven.
Raeford was truly a man of God. His life was lived as a testimony wherever he was. Throughout all of life’s trials, Raeford’s faith in God never wavered. He loved people and enjoyed every moment of life praying, singing, and praising God.
Raeford is survived by his loving wife Lois Murray Morgan Wiggins, daughter Penny Morgan Fox, husband Jeffery of Zebulon, and grandson Jonas Fox.
A service will be held Wednesday December 27th at 2:00 pm at MidPoint Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The burial will take place Thursday, December 28th 11:00 AM at Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Vanceboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Raeford’s name to MidPoint Church, 5407 NC-231 Middlesex, NC 27557.
