Phyllis Moody Alford, 82 of Wendell, passed away Thursday morning at her home surrounded by her family. Phyllis was born in Johnston County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Gussie Moody.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She taught Sunday School for more than 60 years and was involved with the Choir, working with the children and adults at Baptist Tabernacle Church. She loved the Lord and wanted to make sure everyone knew Jesus. She loved sending cards to let people know they were thought of and prayed for, loved to cross stitch and do word search. Phyllis helped work at the Election Polls for many years.
She looked forward to retiring from the NC Department of Correction after 30 years of service, to spend time with her 3 grandchildren and lived to enjoy her 2 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, Tony B. Alford; daughter, Tonya A. Bailey; son, Alan B. Alford and wife,
Debbie; sister, Linda Moody Jones; grandchildren, Haley Wainwright and husband Trey, Landon Bailey and Kaitlin Glover and husband Rob; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Wainwright and Tate Glover; sister-in-law, Ann A. Perry.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Baptist Tabernacle Church. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:45 – 2:45 prior to the service in the Family Ministry Center. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
