Milton Douglas “Doug” Mitchell
November 1, 1932 – October 17, 2025
Milton Douglas “Doug” Mitchell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, October 17. Doug, affectionately known by most as “Grandaddy” or “Papa D” leaves behind a beautiful legacy and an inspiring testimony of faith to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Doug was the son of the late James Edgar and Marjorie Moore Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Janet Parrish Mitchell; and his sisters Edna Woodlief and Bea Watts.
He is survived by his daughter, Anna Mitchell Parrish and son-in-law, Tony Parrish; his grandchildren, Grayson Mitchell Parrish (Heather) and Sydney Parrish Gupton (Casey); and his adored great-grandchildren, Lacey Anna Gupton and Jack Mitchell Parrish; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and loving caregivers. Doug’s unwavering love for his grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren, was something extremely special. The love he felt for each of them was a sacred part of who he was.
Doug was a devoted follower and faithful servant of God. His heart belonged first to God, and next to those he called family – both blood relatives and his cherished friends alike. He, without a doubt, held God supreme. For more than 50 years, he used his God-given talents by serving as music director at multiple churches in Franklin County. Doug will be remembered for his treasured prayers, which made an unforgettable mark on the lives of many.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at White Level Baptist Church on Monday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m., officiated by his friend and brother in Christ, Joseph Spivey. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to visit in the fellowship hall following the service.
In honor of his life, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be sent to a church or charity dear to your heart.
