LUIS ROLANDO REYES-RUIZ

July 26, 1972 – November 8, 2023

Luis Rolando Reyes-Ruiz, 51, of Louisburg, NC, unexpectedly passed away with his wife by his side at Wake Med in Raleigh NC, in the early evening of November 8, 2023. Luis was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) in July of 2022. Despite all his efforts to fight, he was unable to combat this terrible disease.

         Luis was a native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Maximo Reyes and Petra Ruiz-Bermudez.

Luis loved sports and was a true fan to his NY teams, Yankees, NY Giants and NY Knicks. Prior to his diagnosis he was an employee at Auto Zone. He had a love for the automobile field and for a short period of time he had his own detailing business. He participated in many activities such as cornhole and horseshoes. He carried this love for his community to many charity fundraising events.  He was a loving father, husband and friend. His passing has made a significant impact to those around him, and he will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers Hector Goritz and Nelson Goritz and brother n law Efrain DeJesus.

          He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Amy Sutton of Louisburg, NC; sons, Luis Reyes, Jaysen Sutton-Almodóvar and Landin Luis Reyes; mother, Petra Ruiz-Bermudez of Rochester, NY; brothers, Wilson Goritz, Jorge Ruiz;  sisters, Carmen Goritz, Maria Goritz and Miriam Rivera; three granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, followed by a celebration of life on Saturday, November 18th at 7pm, at the Lake Royale Pavilion (130 Chuckwagon Dr, Louisburg NC 27549)
