Lois Braxton Foster King, 83, of Louisburg, NC, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, September 3, surrounded by her family.
Lois was born on October 16, 1941, to the late John Luther and Mattie Snow Murphy Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Garland King; her son, Tony Luther King; her brothers Joe, Jeff, Elmo, John Jr., Tom, Billy, and Wilton Foster; and her sisters Annie Rue Foster, Berta Moore, Lucy Denton, and Rachel Denton.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela King McCracken (David); daughter-in-law, Sharon King; brother-in-law, Tommy King (Darlene); sister-in-law, Joyce King; her grandchildren, Michael McCracken (Katherine), Elizabeth McCracken Medlin (Addison), Madison Davis, and Holden Davis; great-grandchildren, Tenley Lynch, Laurel McCracken, Calvin McCracken, Alice McCracken, and Avery Medlin; her only surviving sibling, Linda Rich; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special caregivers, Sue Denton, Linda Marshall, and Lucy Evans.
Lois graduated from Gold Sand High School in 1960, where she was a standout basketball player. In her younger years, she also loved playing softball with the Mt. Zion “Golden Nuggets,” coached by her husband, Bill. She spent much of her career as a seamstress at Louisburg Sportswear and later retired from the Before and After Daycare programs at Royal Elementary and Laurel Mill Elementary. A devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Lois taught children’s Sunday School and sang in the choir until her health declined. Her family was her “world,” especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her “NaNa.” They brought so much joy and happiness to her life! She will be deeply missed and will live forever in our hearts.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, September 6, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Bill Haley, Charles Haley, and Ryan Ellington. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 PM in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow the service in the Foster Family Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted or donations can be made in Lois's name to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 111 Laurel Mill-Centerville, Rd., Louisburg, NC 27549.
