KAY E. HICKOX
November 14, 1947 - October 29, 2024
Linda Kay Edwards Hickox, 76, of Henderson, North Carolina, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2024. She is survived by her son, Dustin Hickox (Tana and Ava); her granddaughter, Ashley Hickox; her great-grandson, Camdon Hickox; her precious Yorkshire Terrier, named Giggy; her sisters, Bobbie Wrenn and Sandi Fleming; her sister-in-law, Shirley Edwards; and an adoring multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Predeceased family members include not only her parents, Nathan M. and Alethea C. Edwards, but also her brother, Douglas Edwards, and a number of nephews whom she deeply cherished.
Kay was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Blessed by opportunity to explore the world as an Eastern Airlines flight attendant, she resided for more than two decades in Denver, Colorado. In 1989, however, she relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she worked as a sales representative for Franklin Supply and, ultimately, Guest Supply, retiring in 2018, returning to North Carolina, and volunteering to serve as a caretaker for her much-endeared “Aunt Polly.”
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass – it’s about, instead, learning to dance in the rain – and dance, she did – from flawless renditions of Mama’s Charleston at age three, to shag trophies during the teenage years, and to, finally, the smoothest two-step ever. Jesus tells us that there’s “a time to mourn and a time to dance,” and, as we now so meekly mourn, He warmly shares with us the image of a special angel dancing – literally – with the stars.
A celebration of life service will be held on Kay’s birthday, at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Rock Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 34 Rock Springs Church Road (off N. C. 39 Highway), Louisburg, North Carolina 27549. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church’s building fund.
Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Louisburg -- www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
