JOHN L. HINTON
September 16, 1953 – September 8, 2024
MIDDLESEX, NC - John Lewis Hinton, age 70, departed this life for his heavenly reward on Sunday, September 8, 2024 following a lengthy illness.
John was born September 16, 1953 to Melvin H. Hinton and Mary Ruth Stephens Hinton, both of whom predeceased him.
John worked diligently for 35 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, retiring in July 2006. Following his retirement from State Government, he continued his career with Municipal Engineering of Garner. His greatest career achievement was obtaining the status of Professional Engineer in 1997, of which he was so proud.
John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God with a rich heritage in the Church. May his memory be that of a humble servant of the Lord.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Midpoint Church in Middlesex at 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:15 – 6:45 PM. Burial will take place at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon on Thursday, September 12, at 11:00 AM.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 49 years, Marie Pearce Hinton; a son, Matthew R. Hinton of Middlesex; his two precious and beloved granddaughters, Presley Hinton and Harper Hinton. Also surviving is a sister, Faye H. Overman (Jimmy), and a niece Jennifer Toney (Eric) all of Knightdale.
In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Destiny fund” at MidPoint Church at 5407 NC Hwy 231, Middlesex, NC 27557.
