Jean Freeman Chalk Obituary

V. Jean Freeman Chalk, 81 of Wendell, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a long illness, on February 22, 2025.

Jean was born June 20, 1943, to the late William Harrison and Dorothy Sanders Freeman in Robbins, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnnie Belvin Freeman.

Jean was very passionate about real estate and in the 1970’s, while working full- time and taking care of her family, she attended night school to get the needed requirements to take the North Carolina real estate exam. Jean was one of the first women in North Carolina, at that time, to get her real estate license. She would work in real estate on weekends and after work and then after a few years, she could work in real estate full-time. After much hard work, she earned the coveted GRI, LTG, and PMN designations. Jean joined the Women’s Council of Realtors of North Carolina and served as Secretary and then as President during her many years of participation. While WCR President, she traveled all over North Carolina, and other States, visiting and representing the many WCR chapters and speaking at numerous banquets and meetings. Jean owned her own company and sold real estate for over fifty years. Jean was also a member of the
Raleigh Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Jean was known for her selflessness, generosity, humor, and resilience, and she touched the lives of so many. Jean had many interesting and humorous stories about her life, along with the trials and tribulations that went with each one that made her a wonderful storyteller in her own right. Throughout her life, Jean embodied true kindness and compassion for everyone she met with the overwhelming majority of those becoming life-long friends.

Jean was a faithful Christian woman, who served God as a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church until her health began to fail.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband of sixty-four years, Harvey, their daughters; Sherry (Nat) Johnson of Wendell, and Tammy (Keith) Moore of Spring Hope, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, brother; Lee (Elsie) Freeman of Ellerbe,
