Jean Cone Stone Obituary

Smithfield - Jean Cone Stone, age 84, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Wake Med in Raleigh. Born August 14, 1938 in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late William Lester and Mary Murray Cone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roland Charles Stone; her sisters Hazel Penney and husband Warren, Doris Massey and Janice Hunt and her husband Marion "Buddy".

Jean served in ministry and as a pastor's wife for well over 50 years in several churches in the Church of God denomination across North Carolina. She had a passion for children and she worked with children's ministries and the ladies' ministries in most of their pastorates. She also was a strong supporter of world missions until her death. She was truly the virtuous wife, mother and grandmother described in Proverbs 31:10-31. She had a quiet, gentle spirit and was unshakeable in her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was admired for her wisdom,  listened far more than she spoke and was an earthly rock for her family. As a grandmother (affectionately known as Mama Stone) her only granddaughter and grandson, Shelley and Chad, were the apples of her eye.

Her heart's desire was to see people saved and follow Jesus, especially family and friends. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

The funeral services will be conducted at Midpoint Church located at 5407 NC 231 Middlesex, NC 27557 on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM with burial immediately following in the F.W. Stone Family Memorial Cemetery located at 9009 Stone Heritage Rd. Middlesex, NC 27557. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mark Ingram and Rev. Matthew Cornett.

Surviving are her daughter, Melody Stone Mitchell and husband Darryl of Smithfield; sisters Joan Cone of Middlesex, Brenda Cone Stone and husband Tony Stone of Wilson; granddaughter Shelley Wiley and husband Dr. Jonathan Wiley of Cookeville, TN; grandson Chad Higgenbottom of Smithfield, NC. Also surviving are several special nieces, their husbands, and great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
