Georgia Mitchell Obituary

Georgia Cone Mitchell, 78, of Middlesex, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday afternoon at Rex Healthcare surrounded by her family.  She was born in Nash County a daughter of the late Oliver Glenard and Estelle Brantley Cone.

Georgia Cone Mitchell, affectionately known to many as “Georgie” was a Godly loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and church member with a servant’s heart. She served as "caretaker" for her father, mother, son, grandson, and others in the community who needed her loving care. She desired to serve without recognition. She could always be found with a smile on her face regardless of her circumstances.

She served in the Middlesex Church of God (now Midpoint Church) for years in many capacities including the Greeters Ministry, Food Ministry, Son Shining Seniors and Celebrate Recovery ministry. She served with Meals on Wheels for 21 years.  She also served as a poll worker in her community for several years.

Georgia loved missions work as well. She and Steve served the people in the Dominican Republic by building a church.

She and Steve were well known in the Samaria Community, as operators of Georgia's Hot Dog Stand. People traveled for miles for one of her hot dogs.

She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her sister in law, Jordice Cone, describes her very well in a FB tribute shown below:

"Yesterday the world lost one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. It all seems so unreal. Georgie was always just "down the road" and we knew if we needed anything or just someone to talk to she was there. Her quiet sweet spirit made your faith stronger. She didn't need to shout anything, she just simply lived it. She was the matriarch of the Cone family, the glue that kept us together because family was important to her. She was a strong woman of faith that trusted the Lord. She trusted God when she lost a baby girl, a son, two grandchildren, a sister, two brothers, and then not long ago, the love of her life, her soulmate, Steve. I never heard her complain or question why during times of sorrow. Her relationship with God was strong and unbreakable. She lived her Christianity without needing to say a word. Her quiet example was a witness to her community of the true meaning of Christianity and that was to love one another. In a world of chaos at all times in her life, she was strong and steady. She never shifted from her faith. Our family has a deep void but rejoice that she is now complete, whole, and finally home. Love you Georgie!"

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Noble Mitchell; son, Donald Wayne Mitchell; grandsons, Seth Douglas Mitchell and Jonathan Stephen Mitchell; sister, Mable Jean Narron; brothers, Oliver Glenard Cone, Jr. and Marshall Cone.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 am Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Midpoint Church with Pastor Mark Ingram and Pastor Tim Hopkins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Brantley Family Cemetery, Hwy. 231, Middlesex.

She is survived by her devoted son, Darryl Mitchell and wife, Melody Mitchell of Smithfield; sisters, Jane Cone Snell and husband, Jimmy and Kay Cone of Middlesex; brother, Dennis Cone and wife, Jordice of Middlesex; grandchildren, Shelley Wiley and husband Jon, and Chad Higgenbottom; several nieces and nephews.
