GEORGE W. PARRISH
August 29, 1928 – February 11, 2024
HIGH SPRINGS, FL – George Willard Parrish, 95, of High Springs, Florida, passed away Sunday morning at Haven Hospice of Gainesville.
George was the son of the late Willard Parrish and Hallie Hudson Parrish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Wiggins Parrish; and sister, Jessie Policia.
George was a very accomplished race horse trainer, and had several awards for winning horse races. He also raced cars, and at one point raced alongside Lee Petty, who was the father of Nascar legend, Richard Petty. For many years, he also owned and operated the Parrish-Phelps Motor Company in Henderson selling Studebakers.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, at the Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
George is survived by his daughter, Deborah Summey and husband Reggie, of Crouse, NC; son, George W. Parrish, Jr. and wife Karen, of High Springs, FL; grandchildren Justin, Kristen (Bobby), Dylan (Devon), Courtney (Brent), and Evie (Tad); and great-grandchildren Elliot, Megan, Tanner, Hallie, Lane, Kason, and Callihan.
