Fred C. Hight, Jr. Obituary

FRED C. HIGHT JR.

AUGUST 28, 1940 – JUNE 15, 2022

Fred Colom Hight Jr. of Louisburg, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, after a brief illness. He died peacefully with his beloved wife Lou and daughters Lia and Gina by his side. He was 81 years old.

Fred was born to Priscilla Dare West and Fred Hight Sr. on August 28, 1940. As a young man attending Sandy Creek Baptist Church, he developed a deep Christian faith which would stay with him for the rest of his life.

In 1958 while attending NC State University, he met the love of his life, Annie Lou Billups. They were married in 1964 and lived together almost inseparably for 58 years. They welcomed two daughters, Lia Michelle and Gina Nichole, born four years apart.

Always meticulous and a dapper man, Fred opened Town N Campus with his uncle Lloyd West in 1960, a boutique clothing store on Main Street, catering to local college students and young professionals. An entrepreneur at heart, in 1978 he founded Fred Hight Builders. He and Lou worked together for 40 years building hundreds of McDonald’s, IHOPs, and Hardee’s throughout North and South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. He was blessed to work alongside his wife, dedicated colleagues, and friends before retiring in 2018.

Fred was a family man through and through. He loved his girls, was a strong patriarch and a loyal friend. He cherished his granddaughter Anna and grandson Beckett, who affectionately referred to him as Granddaddy.

A man of integrity, Fred was patient, gentle, and kind. A servant leader, he was active in his beloved community. He served on Louisburg Town Council for several terms and chaired numerous committees at Louisburg Baptist Church. He loved being on the water and spent countless hours on a pair of skis or behind the wheel of his boat. Carolina Beach held a special place in his heart, spending summers and making many cherished memories there.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Priscilla Hight. He is survived by his loving wife Lou, daughter Lia Michelle Hight of Louisburg; daughter Gina Hight Sheridan (Tommy) and grandchildren Anna Noelle and Beckett Hight of Charlotte; sister Patricia Copley of Virginia Beach; brother Philip Hight (Diane) of Apex, brother William Hight (Laura) of Louisburg, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Louisburg Baptist Church, 302 N. Main Street, Louisburg, NC. A private entombment will take place prior.
