Evelyn Marie (Smith) Pernell

LOUISBURG – Evelyn Marie Smith Pernell, age 87, went to her heavenly home on September 1st. She was the daughter of the late James Wiley Smith and Lucy Tharrington Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Green Pernell, sisters, Margie Billings and Mildred Roberson, and brothers, James W. Smith, Jr. and Donald Ray Smith. She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

Marie always had a big smile and was more concerned about others’ well-being than her own. She always had a delicious homemade biscuit for anyone that stopped by until her health challenges with Alzheimer’s. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially by her children and grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her four children; Ann Wilson (Shelton), Joseph “Joey” Pernell (Chris), Sherry P. Nevils (Ralph), and Midge P. Hood (Chris), and seven grandchildren; Duane Pernell, Amanda Pernell, Noah Pernell, Matt Nevils, Josie Nevils, Katie Hood, and Lily Hood; brother Michael Smith (Cherry) and sister Avis Mae Smith Pernell.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 4, at 3:00 PM at the Murray-Pernell Family Cemetery.
