Douglas (Doug) Whitley, 81, departed this life for his heavenly reward on Monday morning, September 23, 2024, with his family by his side.
Doug was born November 14, 1942, in Nash County, a son of the late Noah and Marvene Hopkins Whitley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Seth and Jonathan. He was a retired farmer, a truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army.. Though he was a quiet man, many thought of him as a gentle giant. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather and friend to many. He truly walked the walk and talked the talk as reflected in his faith in Jesus Christ.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at MidPoint Church, with Reverend Tracy Stone and Reverend Joe Leonard officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00, other times the family will be at home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Stone Whitley; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Dennis Murphy of Middlesex, Karen and Randy Tew of Clayton; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Phyllis Bissette of GA; sister Carol Jean Sherrod (Jerry); brothers, Jerry Whitley (Agnes), Allen Whitley (Shirley) and Kenneth Whitley (Kathy) all of Middlesex; grandsons, Cole Tew, Christopher and Noah Bissette; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to help with the care of Doug’s son, Terry Bissette, a stroke victim. Donations made payable to Brenda Whitley, 4216 Old Nash Rd., Middlesex, NC 27557.
