D. Scott Sanderford
August 19, 1962 – January 29, 2026
David Scott Sanderford, 63, of Wendell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday evening.
Scott was the son of the late Eldora Jones Sanderford and J. Dwight Sanderford and was preceded in death by his infant sister in 1969.
Born in Nebraska, Scott was raised in Wendell. He graduated from Vaiden Whitley High School and then attended Campbell University he then graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science.
Scott devoted forty-two years to a distinguished career in funeral service. He began his career working at funeral homes in Raleigh, Wendell, Charlotte, and Greensboro, later continuing his career in Nashville, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. Scott ultimately returned home to Wendell, where he completed his career before retiring in 2024.
Scott had a deep love for his beagles and for travel. He was fortunate to visit many countries around the world and cherished those experiences. Most recently, he spent Christmas and New Year’s in London, one of his favorite cities.
Scott is survived by his partner, Jeff Tudi; his best friend, Al Phelps; his beloved canine companions, Ethel, and Lucy; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
In accordance with Scott’s wishes, no services will be held. There will be a gathering of friends to celebrate Scott’s life Saturday, February 28th, 1 – 3:30 pm at Winston’s Grille 6401 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents and grandparents at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter in Scott’s memory.
