D. Jackson "Jackie" Williams Obituary

“Jackie”

D. Jackson” Williams

Douglas Jackson “Jackie” Williams, of Louisburg. passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC from complications related to flu and pneumonia. He was 87 years old.

Jackie is survived by a daughter, Amy Williams Phelps, and husband Keith Phelps of Raleigh and a grandson, Rhys Phelps of Raleigh.

Jackie was born on May 16, 1932 to Douglas and Bertha House Williams, who preceded him in death. He also had one brother, Winfred, who passed away as an infant.

Jackie graduated from Edward Best High School and went on to graduate from Louisburg College. After college he married Dulcie Gupton Williams. The two met when they were in grade school and were forever loves. Where you saw one, you saw the other. She was the love of his life. They were married for almost 65 years. She passed away in October 2018.

Jackie worked for the North Carolina Department of Revenue in Raleigh for over 30 years. He made numerous friends there that were like family over the many years.

Jackie will always be known as a kind, gentle, thoughtful, and sweet man who loved his friends and family so much. He loved visiting and spending time with his friends especially Sam Wood, Carl Collins, Mack Joyner, Thurman Thomas, Doug Mitchell, and Roney Bunn. He loved to visit and reminisce with his cousins from the Williams, Eason, and House families.

Jackie loved to go to his church. He was a faithful member of White Level Baptist Church. He especially loved his Sunday school class.

Jackie so much enjoyed spending the holidays with his family. He looked forward to being with Amy, Rhys, and Keith, Brenda, John, Kelley, and Joshua Gupton, and Rita Horton.

After his wife’s passing, Jackie moved to Louisburg Manor in an independent apartment. He was happy to see some familiar faces there, and also made some new friends.

Jackie loved his caregivers and truly appreciated everything they did for him. He so loved his caregiver, Tomiko Alley Myers who was his daily companion and confidante. They visited friends, went to appointments, ran errands, laughed, cried, and always stopped at BoJangles. He was so thankful for his night time caregivers, Dianne Wood, and Tammy Harris. They helped him feel safe and well loved and allowed him to rest and not feel afraid. He enjoyed his Saturday’s with Mrs. Betty Jean May and looked forward each week to seeing Kristen, Nolan, and Jenna House who took him to church.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 7pm at White Level Baptist Church at 2400 White Level Road, Louisburg, NC. Immediately afterwards will be a time to visit with family and friends.
