Colleen Johnson Massengill

Colleen Massengill, 89, of Wendell, departed this life for her heavenly reward on Saturday night, December 14, 2024.

 Colleen was born on March 29, 1935, a daughter of the late Lexie Elgin Johnson and Joda Helen Horton Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Herndon and Ben Massengill; sisters, Wilhelmina Currin, Mable Watkins, Minnie Sorrel and Betty Bass.

 Colleen was a retired executive secretary with the NC Wildlife Department,

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, December 23, 2024, at East Wake Church of God with Pastor Tim Hopkins officiating. A private family burial will follow in the Horton Family Cemetery in Zebulon. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00- 1:45 at East Wake Church of God.

She is survived by her sons, Billy Herndon and Jim Herndon; grandson, Michael Herndon; several nieces and nephews.
