CLOYCE B. ALFORD
May 22, 1928 – November 21, 2021
On November 21, 2021, Cloyce B. Alford passed from this life to be with the Lord. Cloyce put his faith and trust in the Lord. He was a friendly person and enjoyed helping others.
Cloyce is survived by his daughters Lynette A. Kozar (Alan) and Sandra B. Alford; grandsons Corey Kozar (Beth), Matthew Kozar (Caroline) and Andrew Kozar (Kayla Capps); great-granddaughters Brayden Kozar and Hannah Kozar; and a special friend, Dorothy Bissette; along with many nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Cloyce wanted to give a special thank you to his caregivers, especially Nikita, Pam, Faye, and Terry, who took such good care of him during his final days.
Cloyce was born in Franklin County, NC, and was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Massey Alford; and by his parents Zollie Floyd Alford and Lala Batchlor Alford. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Shelby F. Alford, James B. “Hoss” Alford, and Johnny H. Alford, and sister Dorothy Alford Batton.
Cloyce graduated from Bunn High School and Hardbarger’s Business College and attended the University of North Carolina. He served his country, as a Sergeant, in the US Army Air Corp and was a veteran of WWII. He loved to play golf and played as long as his health permitted.
Cloyce was employed by the State of NC for over 40 years. He was the Director of Personnel for the Highway Commission and was named the first Director of Personnel for the Department of Transportation. When he retired in 1990, he was awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Bunn Upchurch Alford cemetery in Pilot, NC. The service will be led by a friend, Reverend Robert Owens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Longview Baptist Church or Transitions Lifecare, both of Raleigh, or any cancer fund or charity of your choice.
