Braxton Scott Watson Obituary

BRAXTON SCOTT WATSON

January 4, 2004 – March 26, 2025

Braxton Scott Watson, 21, of Wendell, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on March 26, 2025. Born on January 4, 2004, at Fort Bragg Military Base, Braxton was a fiercely intelligent, quietly kind, and deeply thoughtful young man who made a lasting impact on every life he touched.

Braxton had a mind that never stopped working—he loved politics, chess, and complex video games, and he could build a computer from scratch like it was second nature. He had a passion for tinkering, whether it was restoring electronics, figuring out how to breathe life into something that no longer held a charge, or solving technical problems others wouldn’t dare to attempt. He had a sharp eye for target shooting, a calm presence, and a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that only those closest to him truly appreciated.

Braxton didn't need the spotlight. He was the kind of person who would identify a need and help someone without being asked. Even when life was heavy, he carried it with grace, calmness, and a heart that put others first. He loved his dogs, Miley and Freya, with his whole heart. They were his loyal companions and a comforting presence through every season of his life.

Braxton cared deeply about the world around him. He held strong convictions and had a passion for truth, freedom, and personal responsibility. He saw through the noise of the world and sought out voices that challenged the status quo. His love for his country was rooted in a desire to see it live up to its highest potential, and he never stopped questioning, learning, or standing firm in what he believed was right.

Above all, Braxton loved his family. He shared a special bond with his baby brother, Hudson, who lit up his world in a way no one else could. Though he often claimed he didn’t like kids, Hudson was the exception—his light, his joy, and his pride.

Braxton is survived by his mother, Tara Fitts (Kevin Fitts); his beloved baby brother, Hudson Fitts; his father, Samuel Watson (Jennifer Watson); and his step-siblings, Caleb Wyman, Jacob Wyman, and Rose Wyman. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Carla and Donnie Baker; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Perdue; his maternal great-grandmother, Jackie Pulley; his maternal great-grandfather, Donald Baker (Judy Baker),  and is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bonnie and Jerry Watson; his maternal great-grandfather, Grey Perdue, and his maternal great-grandfather, Allen Pulley who no doubt welcomed him with open arms. He leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

Braxton passed unexpectedly after collapsing, while with his Mimi and Pa. While early indications suggest a heart-related cause, a full autopsy is pending.

A visitation will be held at MidPoint Church, 5407 NC 231 Hwy., Middlesex, NC 27557 on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 12:00 noon. A private family burial will take place on his grandparents’ property—a place that holds deep meaning, memories, and love.

One of the last things Braxton did before his passing was write the words of Joshua 1:5 on the wooden framing of his new bedroom: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That promise now lives on not just in his room, but in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests perennial plants, trees (this is not related to the statement below), or gift cards from local garden centers. These will be lovingly planted at Braxton’s mom and dad’s homes, as well as at the Baker Family Cemetery, to serve as lasting, living tributes to his memory. For those not nearby, gift cards or arrangements can be mailed directly to the family.

Braxton was a brilliant light—complicated, compassionate, courageous—and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be missed more than words can ever express.
