April 21, 1949 – May 14, 2023

Billie Thrasher Bussey Jones, 74, died Sunday morning, May 14, 2023 at home, in the arms of her beloved husband. Her passing on Mother’s Day was especially poignant – a fitting tribute to a woman who overcame a troubled childhood to build a legacy of unwavering family support and love that now spans three generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Billie was born and spent most of her life in North Carolina. At age 17, she met and soon married Edwin Hewitt Jones. They built a beautiful partnership, life, and family together. They celebrated 56 years of marriage on May 5 – Billie had been ill in recent months, but she beamed like a new bride when Hewitt once again brought roses to mark their special day.

In addition to raising their son and two daughters, at one time Billie ran her own cleaning company and was the business backbone of Hewitt’s heating and air conditioning operation. She was also the family chauffeur, shuttling the kids from their rural country home to dance, sports practice or wherever they needed to be at all hours and in any weather. Later in life, she was the doting Grammy – so excited to see, hold and speak to her grand and great grandchildren.  In healthier times, she enjoyed spoiling her grandbabies, answering to their every whim, and providing unlimited support in times of need.  The loving care, boundless support, and everyday examples she set for her family forged patterns and bonds that now extend to her three children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Billie is survived by her husband Edwin Hewitt Jones; son Clint Jones and wife Dana of Raleigh; daughters Jennifer Jones Rose and husband Tony of Zebulon, and Amy Jones Manning and husband Shannon of Apex; grandchildren Erika Byrd, Allison Harrell (Husband - Zack), Cassidy Turner (Husband - Brandon), Harrison Manning, Raegan Manning, Hannah Buffaloe (Husband - David), Emili Burroughs (Husband - Brandon), and Christopher Rose; eight great-grandchildren; and honorary children Alex and Kathy Resendiz.

She was preceded in death by her father James B. Bussey; her mother Lavata Painter Bussey; her son Allen Hewitt Jones; brothers Donald Bussey and Robert Ramsey; and sister Mary Murray.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Vision Baptist Church in Raleigh with Pastor Chris Pratt officiating. Burial will follow at the Wake Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
