Bettie was born in Wake County on March 5, 1934 to the late Sidney Albert Bunn and Kathleen Gay Bunn. She graduated from Wakelon High School, class of 1952.
Bettie married her high school sweetheart, Robert Roosevelt Blackley, in a military wedding at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church on June 29, 1952. They were married for 69 years. After Robert’s military service, they returned to Hopkins to live and raise their family. Bettie worked for Beck Brothers Veneer Company for 21 years. She then worked for Little River Gas and Ferrell Gas Company as the office manager/bookkeeper until she retired to spend time with her soul mate.
Bettie was a member of the Board of Directors for Hopkins Fire Department serving as the secretary for 45 years. She attended every board meeting and considered the fire department as her second family. Bettie was so proud when her grandson, Tyler, became a firefighter. Bettie was a member of Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church, serving as WMU director, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She especially loved working with the youth and being a positive influence. Later in life, she enjoyed attending Zebulon Baptist Church.

Bettie enjoyed attending sports activities of her grandson and later, her great grandchildren. She was a beloved Christian wife, mother, mother-in-law, GaGa, great GaGa, and friend to everyone she met. Bettie was loved by everyone for her kind heart and positive attitude and was affectionately called “Shug”.
Bettie is survived by her loving daughters, Sherrie Hopkins (Craig), Denise Loucks (Larry), beloved grandson Tyler Hopkins (Kenzie), two great-grandchildren, Fields and Henley Hopkins, and many Blackley in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
