Ben Williams Obituary

Ben Alan Williams

October 1, 1958 – May 21, 2022

Ben Alan Williams, 63, of Pilot, died Saturday afternoon.  Ben was a son of the late Bennie Brooks and Nell Rose Stallings Williams.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Pilot Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside and other times at the Williams Family Home. Ben will lie in repose at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 1 – 5 pm.

Ben was the son, brother, uncle, step-dad, and friend anyone would love to have. He lived with his mama as her health declined; he was her cook, nurse, and angel 24/7 until the end. He was also a blessing as the “cool” uncle that played putt-putt, par 3, and arcade games on the many Myrtle Beach family trips with mama every summer. He loved cuddling with the kids when they were younger. He was widely known for his State Fair Blue Ribbon fudge at many occasions, especially holidays, and as a means of comfort for families in a time of loss or sadness. He was also a great ice cream maker and made it for family and friends many times during the year with whatever fruit was in season. He pulled the chains for the Bunn High School football teams for many years. He farmed with his Daddy and brothers in the earlier years before going to work at Winn Dixie until they closed, and then Food Lion until he retired. He was a diehard Tarheel fan, and had many spirited conversations at Sunday lunch at Mama’s, as Rhonda was a NC State fan, Hugh was a Duke fan, and Ed couldn’t have cared less. He ran for Mayor of Pilot back when the Fourth of July celebrations were big, raising money for the church. He and Mama enjoyed watching and listening to old country and gospel music. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Ben is survived by his sister Rhonda Stephens; brothers, Ed Williams and Hugh Williams; beloved nieces and nephews, Kyle (Susan) Stephens, Ashton (Jesse) Richards, Cole (Emily) Williams; great-nieces and nephews, Savannah, Tanner, Gavin, Spencer and Wesley; step-children, April Strickland and Blake Strickland.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pilot Baptist Church for the Tennis and Basketball court renovation fund, 3103 NC 39 Hwy. S., Zebulon, NC 27597.
