ALTON REX MURPHY, SR.
October 18, 1943 – December 11, 2024
Alton Rex Murphy Sr., 81, of Castalia, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2024. Born on October 18, 1943, Rex dedicated his life to his family and community. He was a devoted tobacco farmer and worked as a shift supervisor at Burlington Mills and Glenn Raven Mills. Additionally, he served in the National Guard.
After his time in the textile industry, Rex and his wife spent two decades working with Perdue Farms. He had a passion for cooking, often preparing meals for large gatherings, particularly during church events. An active member of Red Bud Baptist Church, Rex cherished his faith and the fellowship it provided.
Rex was the son of the late Baldy and Daphine Murphy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra; his children, Amy Keith (Johnny) and Alton Murphy (Misty); grandchildren Rebecca Johnson (Chris), AJ Keith (Abbi), and Bryson Murphy (Ashlynn Powell); and great-granddaughter Ivy Jane Johnson. He also leaves behind his siblings Carolyn (Leonard) Cannady, Patty Rust, Bobby Murphy, and Jerry (Linda) Murphy, along with many nieces and nephews.
A service in celebration of Rex's life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2 PM at Red Bud Baptist Church. The family invites friends to join them for fellowship following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Bud Baptist Church.
