Allen Wayne Tharrington passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on August 17, 2023.
Wayne was born in Nash County on June 29, 1947. He was a salesman his entire adult life with his favorite hobbies being purchasing new automobiles and shooting pool. Wayne loved to and was an incredibly good cook, owing that to his father, Allen. Above everything else, Wayne loved his family and was so excited whenever new additions came. His nickname, Daddy Wayne, was bestowed upon him by his granddaughter, Alicia.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Juanita Tharrington, his wife, Sandra Burnette Tharrington and his son, Scott Burnette Tharrington, as well as his four-legged son, Victor Newman Tharrington. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Fran Elliott, his son Shane, and daughter-in-law Jennifer. He is additionally survived by his sister, Judy, and brother-in-law Juan Young, and sister, Brenda Tharrington Robbins. Wayne was blessed with six grandchildren, Alicia Ley Marie Tharrington Matthews (Lauren), Allen Chase Tharrington, Kathryn Maria Hazel Holloway, Courtney Holloway Welch (Jared), Aaron Holloway (Cody), and Jonathan Holloway. Wayne is also survived by three great grandchildren, Kyra and Landon Welch, and the recently arrived Aceston Matthews. Wayne also loved his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service commemorating Wayne's life will be held at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory (103 West Franklin Street, Louisburg, NC 27549) on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m., Denise Gupton presiding, with visitation to follow.
Honorary Pallbearers for Wayne are: Juan Young, Jonathan Gupton, Bobby Hill, Joe Roberson, Tommy Howell, Jimmy Keith, Joe Patterson & Bobby Robbins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's name can be given to Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church at 929 M.C. Wilder Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.
