ALICE W. DORSEY
June 7, 1940 – November 12, 2023
LOUISBURG - Alice Wester Dorsey, of the White Level community, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Retreat at Cary Corner Assisted Living facility.
Alice was the daughter of the late Forest Smith Wester and Merle Bailey Wester. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reginald Dorsey; brother Donald Wester; and sister Dorothy Champion.
Alice spent her entire professional career employed by the State of North Carolina with the majority of that time spent as an administrative assistant at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She was known by those who interacted with her as a hard worker who could be counted on to handle any task with professionalism and a positive attitude. She retired in July of 1999.
In her retirement, she enjoyed going on trips with friends, playing bridge, and spending time at her beloved house on the Neuse River in Pamlico County. All of those things brought joy to Alice but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an outstanding cook and some of her most cherished times involved preparing large meals and having her family gather to enjoy them. Holidays and birthdays were her favorite days, and nothing was better than receiving a call on your birthday from Mom or Gan-Gan as she was known by her grandchildren. While she will be greatly missed by her family and friends, her affection and dedication will live on in those she loved.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, at Maple Springs Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:45 – 1:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Alice is survived by her husband of 35 years, Rey Akkerman of Louisburg; son, Lawrence Dorsey and wife Holly of Albemarle; daughter, Allison Grant and husband Charlie of Raleigh; grandchildren, Amanda Dorsey, Emily Dorsey, Davis Grant, and Lindsay Grant; step-children, Shawn Akkerman and Jill Akkerman; step-grandchildren, Derrick Barnes and Sarah Barnes; and many nieces and nephews.
