BUNN – Thomas Ilon Wall, 75, of Bunn, died Friday morning in the Palliative Care Service at Vidant Medical Center. Tom was a son of the late David and Louise W. Wall. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Wall.
He started attending Bethlehem Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids in 1954, and was saved and baptized at the age of 13. He graduated from William R. Davie High School in 1962 and attended Chowan Junior College. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1963 and served our country four years.
He returned to Roanoke Rapids, started working for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company and met Anna Matta, daughter of Cora and Al Matta. They married in July 1971 and made their home in Tarboro, North Carolina where they lived for 25 years. During those years, they had two children, Bennett and Kathryn. Their family grew to include Julie Fields Wall and Aaron Scott Hair. They are proud grandparents of five boys and three girls: Chappell, Cecelia, Ashby, Bryson, Carter, Reese, Evelyn and Bonner.
At Bunn Baptist Church, he served in many aspects of leadership, but his most meaningful role was Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was an inspiration and role model to family and friends throughout his life, both within his community and his church.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Bunn Baptist Church with Rev. David McBryar officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the New Life Center of Bunn Baptist Church.
