MARY RUTH JENKINS LOPP

December 23, 1928 – July 22, 2019

Mrs. Mary Ruth Jenkins Lopp, 90, of both Louisburg and Carolina Beach, NC, passed peacefully at home on July 22, 2019 in Carolina Beach.   Mary was born on December 23, 1928 in Thomasville, NC to Robert and Stella Trotter Jenkins.  She met her future husband, Mr. Fredrick S. Lopp, in grade school and they married after his return from service in the US Army in WWII.  Together, they raised three children in Lexington, NC and later in Cary, NC as Fred moved through the Army ranks to retirement.  During those years, Mary worked continuously to  build and support the family, through her time in accounting at Coble Dairy, Rockwell, Arby’s and other organizations.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of almost 70 years, Mr. Fredrick Samuel Lopp.  She is survived by her children, including her daughter, Connie Lopp Mitchell (Bill, deceased) of Zebulon, NC, and her sons Kenny Lopp (Laurie) of Wetumpka, AL, and Roddie Lopp of Carolina Beach, NC.  Mary’s grandchildren are Jennifer Matthews Coble (Thomas) of Zebulon, NC, James Lineberry Matthews, Jr of Wendell, NC, Mackenzie Ariana Lopp of Wetumpka, AL and  Emma Grace and Chloe Madison Lopp of Tarboro, NC.  Her great-grandchildren are Caroline Ruthanne Coble and Thomas Franklin Coble, Jr (TJ) of Zebulon, NC.

Mary was a strong wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mentor and friend to so very many along her life’s journey.  She was a force of good through the ages and will be greatly missed by the many who love her.

Strickland Funeral Home, located 103 W Franklin Street in Louisburg, NC is providing loving service to Mary, with visitation taking place there on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm.  Mary will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Fred at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
