JOHN DAVID ROCK, SR.

            John D. Rock, Sr., of Louisburg, passed away November 8th, 2019 making it 75 years from 1944.  Hailing from Louisburg, NC via Fayetteville, NC, he is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Shan P. Rock, son, John D. Rock, Jr and his wife, Melissa C. Rock, and 1 year old grandson, Pruitt Winston Rock, two very special brothers and sisters-in-law, BB. and Margaret Pruitt and Cliff and Peggy Benson. 

          John was an aspiring air force pilot early in his career until he was informed that he couldn’t fly with glasses, so he settled on a career of building homes, which turned out to be what he was put on this earth to do, and well is how he built.  An exceptional cook of chilis, stews, and sweet potato pies, he was second to none as a winter time chef. An avid fan of Miller Lite, he was one of the best funny story tellers there ever was. That is, if he could get to the end amidst the cackling laughter he bestowed upon himself.  St. Peter, surely, was doubled over laughing when he opened the gates. He worked hard but played equally hard.

          He was an unbelievable father and faithful husband with more patience than Job in difficult situations. To this day there’s not a bigger George Jones fan up there, including Tammy.  Organized to the hilt, the only better record keeping was his memory where he could recall anything. Besides his church and family, his favorite times were spent with his son’s friends, whom he called “my boys”. Many of his friends have already written confirming that he was a legend. For those who knew him, surely we will all agree that our lives were better having been a part of his.  He will be sorely missed and left some mighty big shoes that will probably go unfulfilled.

          In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

          The family will receive friends at their home at all times. Services will be private.
