JAMES TUCKER PEEBLES
“COACH”
WENDELL – James Tucker Peebles, 85, of Wendell died Thursday morning July 26, 2018. He was born on May 9, 1933 in Raleigh, the son of the late James Wiley Peebles and Katheryn Shaw Tucker Peebles.
He was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School and Atlantic Christian College, where he was recently inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.. He was a teacher, coach and administrator for 30 years in the North Carolina public school system. He was also a real estate agent for several years with his brother in Raleigh. He was an active member of the Wendell Christian Church, where he served as Elder. He was also in the men’s fellowship, a member of choir, and former chairman of the board. He was a member of Colonel Henry K. Burgwyn SCV, the Lions Club in Raleigh and a former member of the Wendell Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Lawrence Peebles; son, Mark Tucker Peebles and wife, Karen of Wake Forest; daughter, Melissa Faye Peebles of Bethel; 9 step- children and 13 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Libby Peebles; brother, Julian Peebles and a step-son.
A celebration of his life will be held 3 pm on Sunday, July 29, at Wendell Christian Church with internment to follow in Greenmount Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the committal service at Wendell Christian Church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Wendell

He was a man of integrity, love, and had a great sense of humor and truly loved his family.
