DEMO H. TANT
Sept. 21, 1921 – Feb. 11, 2024
Demo Hartsell Tant, 102 of Momeyer, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at his home. He was born in Franklin County, a son of the late Junie Leslie Tant and Viola Williams Tant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolora Brown Tant; sisters, Delilah (Liza) Ray and Dearl Ferrell; brother, Elmo Tant and nephew Stuart Ferrell.
Demo was a retired professional photographer where he and his wife owned Tants Studio in Raleigh for many years, retiring in 1982. At the age of 10 his mother gave him his first quitar and a harmonica every year. Demo knew he had an ear for music and taught himself to play the piano, guitar, banjo, violin, harmonica and more. He enjoyed playing music with his friends in the Momeyer community.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Momeyer Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Zebulon. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service. Mr. Tant will lie in state from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg.
He is survived by his sister, Lucille T. Pearce of Pine Ridge; nieces and nephews, Gale Ward (Barry), Cal Pearce (Rene) Barbara Jo Ray, Jane Horton (Freddie), Charles Ray (Cathy), Vickie Robbins (Mack), Jackie Barbour (Rodney) and Ricky Ferrell (Dee); several great nieces and nephews, cousins and his wonderful caregivers, Peggy Aycock, Gail Ivy, and Mandy Reyes. Thanks to all the special friends that are too numerous to mention that helped Demo in so many ways.
