G. MILTON JONES
Sept. 13, 1928 – Apr. 17, 2017
BUNN – George Milton Jones, 88, of Bunn went home to be with the Lord Monday morning at Wake Med. He was the son of the late Robert Troy and Fannie Alford Jones.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Herman, Ivan, Johnny and Robert Jones.
Mr. Jones left his family farm to join the United States Air Force in 1949. In 1952 he returned to the family farm and later started a 30 year career at the North Carolina Department of Corrections, after retiring he drove a Franklin County School bus for 16 years and loved every rider and parent and school official he ever met. This love extended way beyond his school bus driving days to include every person he ever came in contact with including Department of Correction residents he interacted with to the extent that he visited and witness to them after they were required to relocate.
He was a great, maybe even the greatest, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather and loved all his family to the fullest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lorine Strickland Jones and just recently they spent one of the longest times apart from each other due to their injuries. His daughter, Paula Hamilton (David); sons, Jerry Jones (Peggy), Ashley Jones (Desiree); grandchildren, David Wayne Hamilton, Cody Hamilton, Abby Bevins, Houston Jones, Stacy Shearin, Jamie Shearin and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Jones (Bobbi).
Mr. Jones’ love for people did not stop with his family; it extended to every person he ever came in contact with. Mr. Jones knew what all lives matter way long ago, way before this saying became popular.
Mr. Jones has taught many people way more than any educational institution in the world, and most of these moments will be remembered forever,
Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday at Social Plains Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg.
